the Labyrinth. a fascinating archetype.

The labyrinth is an archetype that has emerged in most cultures and traditions. My mind goes immediately to the gardens of Versailles, to the poem by Borges, and to Theseus and the Minotaur when I think of a labyrinth. But it also wanders to the proverbial labyrinth portrayed in the unpredictable journeys of Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Dorothy and Toto in the Wizard of Oz and of course Odysseus in the Odyssey.

The Labyrinth is most beautifully represented in the film Pan’s Labyrinth as well as in the book Piranesi by Susannah Clarke.
